Meet Thalia Tatham, Owner & Founder of House of Vegano, LLC
GH: Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
TT: Hi, I’m Thalia Tatham, and I’m the proud owner and Founder of House of Vegano, Tampa Bay Area’s first all-vegan sushi restaurant. Our mission is to create a space where everyone can enjoy delicious and innovative plant-based sushi, whether you’re a long-time vegan or just curious about trying something new. We’re all about blending tradition with innovation, and we love showcasing how amazing and diverse vegan cuisine can be.
GH: What Inspired you to start your business?
TT: My journey began when I was diagnosed with lupus, which led me to adopt a plant-based diet for my health. Sushi has always been my favorite food, but I noticed there weren’t many options for people like me—vegans, expectant mothers, and those with allergies—who still wanted to enjoy sushi without compromising on taste or quality. I saw a niche that wasn’t being filled, and I knew I could create something special that would allow everyone to enjoy the flavors of sushi in a completely plant-based way. That realization was the driving force behind House of Vegano. I wanted to show people you don’t need fish to enjoy sushi, and vegan food can be just as flavorful, if not more so!
Please describe your experience with working with us at The Greenhouse. Would you recommend us to others?
TT: Working with The Greenhouse has been an incredible experience. Their support and resources have been invaluable in helping me grow House of Vegano. The team is knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to assist with whatever I need. I would absolutely recommend The Greenhouse to any small business owner looking for guidance and support. They’ve played a significant role in our continued success.
GH: What are your future goals/plans for your business?
TT: Looking ahead, I’m excited about expanding House of Vegano. I’d love to open more locations and continue to innovate our menu with new and exciting dishes. We’re also exploring ways to engage with the community more deeply, possibly through cooking classes or collaborations with other local businesses. Ultimately, my goal is to make House of Vegano a staple in the vegan food scene and a place where everyone feels welcome.
GH: What advice would you give to other women who are looking to build their businesses?
TT: My biggest piece of advice is to stay true to your vision and be prepared to work hard. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, but if you’re passionate about what you’re doing, it’s worth it. Surround yourself with a supportive community, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and always keep learning. Also, be patient—growth takes time, so don’t get discouraged if things don’t happen overnight.
GH: Why do you think National Black Business Month is important?
TT: National Black Business Month is crucial because it shines a spotlight on the contributions of Black entrepreneurs and the challenges we often face. It’s a time to celebrate our successes, raise awareness about the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses, and inspire the next generation of Black entrepreneurs. Representation matters, and this month helps ensure that our voices and businesses are seen, heard, and supported.
